Cooper, Abigail, and Dusty making sugar cookies |
Well hello there and welcome to recipe #15 yeah you are saying what.....today is the sixteenth. Let me explain......my granddaughter Abigail (she is four, three months older than Cooper) came over yesterday and we just had a fun filled day, we made sugar cookies, gingerbread cookies, necklaces, and colored. She ended up spending the night and when it came for her to go to sleep she wanted me lay with her and I did, in the meantime my hubby brought me a water and the next thing I knew it was 1 am when I awoke to my cold water leaking all in the bed. Abigail and I both woke up, changing the sheet and fast back to sleep. I had started the post but yeah that was it.
That usually is not my plan I lay with the babies to fall asleep and then it is off to the studio to CREATE!!! Oh well sometimes one must crash!! LOL!! Sorry!
This morning I woke to phone ringing, it was the school they had called to tell us that the schools are cancelled today due to an Advised weather conditions....do what? It is not snowing and it is 21 degrees....well anyway!!???! They are expecting a heavy snow fall around 11 am....so we shall see. The kids were so excited!!
Today's recipe #15 comes from Borden Eagle Brand 1-2-3 Dessert that I bought for $1.00 at Roses. I have searched many years for one like this one and always think that it will be the one and never is....but this is the one!! When I was in the fifth grade we moved to our new home and our new neighbors brought over the BEST brownies I had ever tasted, none have ever even came close to these!!! Well every holiday while I was growing up these BEST brownies would be a gift from them and trust me they very much welcomed. Well the search was on, they would never give me the recipe even asking year after year. So every time I would find a new brownie recipe I would make it...and nope not the one. This one has come the closest ever. This recipe can be found on page 33 of the book and for a $1.00 who can go wrong???
Fudge Topped Brownies
2 cups of sugar
2 sticks of butter/margarine
1 cup all-purpose flour
2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
3 teaspoons vanilla extract, divided
1 cup chopped nuts (optional) I used pecans
2 cups of chocolate morsels (semi-sweet)
1 can of 14oz size Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed milk (NOT evaporated milk)
dash salt
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix together in a large mixing bowl sugar, melted butter, flour, cocoa, baking powder, eggs, milk, and vanilla. Stir in chopped nuts (optional) I added pecans. Spread into greased 13x9 glass baking dish. Bake for 40 minutes at 350 degrees.
While the brownies are baking. On a medium heat on top of stove melt together the chocolate chip morsels, vanilla, salt, and the Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk. Cover with lid and turn off burner allow to sit until the brownies come out of the oven, spread the fudge topping on immediately after brownies are removed from oven. Cut when cool, wiping knife between cuts. These freeze well, and are very delicious. I hope you enjoying this one because we sure have. Remember I will have blog candy at the end of the recipe's to Christmas so don't forget your comment. Thanks!! Love to hear from ya! Cyber hugs, Dawn Gallop (oh btw it has started snowing) wink, wink!!
